Red BayRed Bay is one of the oldest occupied ports along the Labrador Straits. The earliest European occupants were Breton fishermen and Basque whalers during the 16th century. Men from the Basque Provinces of France and Spain sailed to the Labrador Straits each year to hunt the large right and bowhead whales.
Increase Expected in Tourism
The Town of Red Bay is ready for another busy tourist season. In 2003 there were over 10,000 tourists who visited Red Bay. In addition to the Parks Canada Tourism centers, the town also has a whale exhibit that features a 52 ft. skeleton of a Bowhead Whale. This skeleton is over 400 years old.New Walking Trail
The Town of Red Bay constructed a new walking trail up over Tracey Hill in 2003. This trail offers breath taking views of Red Bay, it has two coin-operated telescopes. Town Council
