Pinsent's Arm is located on the south side of St. Michael's Bay, about 20 km southeast of Charlottetown. Settled year-round since the late 1950s, in 1992 Pinsent's Arm still didn't appear on some maps, while others identified it as "Penson's Arm". It is believed that the community and Pinsent's Island to the east were named for an early trader on the Labrador coast, Andrew Pinson, or for R. J. Pinsent, the appointed Judge of the Labrador coast in 1963. In 1966 the population was recorded to be 11.

Pinsent's Arm is now accessible by road and is about 30 minutes away from Charlottetown. There is more detailed information at the Labrador Coastal Drive link, but it makes a great little morning or afternoon trip from Charlottetown.
