L'Anse au ClairL'Anse au Clair was established by the French in the early 1700s. In 1702, Augustin de Courtemanche received a concession from the governor of New France to fish for seals and codfish along the southern Labrador coast. This large concession was later divided into smaller ones, one of them being Anse St. Claire. The name L'Anse au Clair is a more recent variation.
