Youth Ventures Program
The Labrador Straits Chamber of Commerce is coordinating a Youth Ventures Program again this year. Lanny Barney has been hired as the Program Coordinator which began on May 1st. The purpose of this program is to develop entrepreneurial skills in youth by supporting summer enterprises initiated by youth. We encourage youth to create their own meaningful summer employment and to develop a strong foundation for their future, by setting up and operating a small business with our support and the help of the local community. If you or someone you know, between the ages of 12 - 29 years, are interested in starting their own summer employment and will be returning to school in September, please call Lanny at 931-2073 for assistance.
Business Retention & Expansion Program
The Business Retention & Expansion Program which is being implemented by the Labrador Straits Chamber of Commerce is a very exciting venture for our current businesses. It's focus is on strengthening and expanding existing businesses, this process started on April 26th when Bruce Moores was hired as the Program Coordinator and will continue for 1 year. The program is being sponsored by DITRD and will encompass an interview which is being compiled by PJ Gardiner Institute of Memorial University. Our goal is to interview 50 of our existing businesses which will be randomly selected by PJ Gardiner. We would like to encourage each of the selected businesses to take advantage of this great opportunity as it will help them identify any problem areas they are facing, which a task force will then review and assist where possible. For further information on this program please contact Bruce Moores at 931-2073.
